The Long Path begins in New York City — at the A train 175th Street subway station — and runs north for 358 miles to the foothills of the Adirondacks.

I’m hiking it section by section, using photography and field notes to document the landscapes, history, and small details along the way.

From a 1930s vision of an unmarked route to today’s evolving trail, the Long Path has always been a work in progress. This overview traces how it came to be and what makes it different from other long-distance hikes.
